HUMAN ACCESS in Hadhramaut Governorate organized an awareness session in the city of Mukalla to increase community awareness of the harms of female genital mutilation (FGM), as part of the project to combat FGM, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
In her speech, Ms. Hikma Saeed Al-Shuaibi, advisor to the Social Affairs and Labor office in Hadhramaut Coast, praised these awareness-raising activities to confront female genital deformities, which are considered an act of gender-based violence, stressing the importance of mobilizing efforts to address this harmful phenomenon.
A group of thirty female social workers and Social Affairs office employees attended the awareness session, which addressed how sexual mutilation of girls is a wrong practice that is deeply rooted in some social norms and has long-term negative physical, psychological, and social consequences.
