HUMAN ACCESS continues to implement activities of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to Combat Violence against Women and Girls within the context of the Protection and Livelihood Support Project "Safe Space for Women and Girls" funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to ensure a comprehensive response to gender-based violence in Yemen.
In Aden Governorate, the safe space launched awareness campaigns on violence, emphasizing the need to address this scourge in a comprehensive manner.
The space also distributed economic empowerment grants to beneficiaries of vocational training in sewing and incense making to engage into the labor market and obtain a steady source of income that helps them cope with life's challenges and makes them less vulnerable to violence.
In Wadi Hadhramaut, the Safe Space in Seiyun city held an art competition for high school girl students to draw paintings expressing violence against women.
The space also organized a program for awareness ambassadors targeting 14 female guides and educators to spread awareness about women's rights. The program highlighted the need to prevent violence for stable and prosperous societies.
In Al-Mahrah Governorate, the Safe Space in Al-Ghaydah city launched various activities under the slogan "Empowering and Protecting Women for Sustainable Development", which included a radio interview on a local radio station to introduce the 16-day campaign of activism, in addition to honoring the space's workers in recognition of their efforts in advocating and supporting women's issues and combating all forms of violence.
In Marib Governorate, the Safe Space in Al-Matar area held three awareness sessions, the first one, attended by 25 women, focused on legal issues and human rights, addressing the meanings and implications of the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
The second one addressed gender and gender-based violence and the need for urgent investments to fulfill the promise of a life free of violence for women and girls.
The third event in which 15 beneficiaries participated discussed the risks associated with early marriage and how to mitigate them as forms of violence.
The Safe Space also organized a training program in the art of "Concrete" for 12 beneficiary women, to equip them with new skills to improve their income as a strong response to gender-based violence issues.
In Al-Rawdah area and Al-Mil camps, the safe space launched a women's celebration attended by many influential women and girls in the community. The celebration included various artistic segments, television shows, and introductory discussions on this year’s 16 Days of Activism campaign, emphasizing the importance of concerted efforts to end the scourge of violence and protect the family and society.
In Taiz Governorate, the safe space in Al-Qahira district organized an awareness event that included competitions, distribution of brochures, theatrical and chanting segments, attended by a number of female community leaders and volunteers, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent and address gender-based violence as a public health and human rights issue.
