HUMAN ACCESS in Marib, Hadramout, and Taiz governorates launched the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to Combat Violence against Women and Girls by launching a set of important activities within the Protection and Livelihood Support Project "Safe Space for Women and Girls", funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to support women in Yemen.
In Marib, under the patronage of the Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of the Governorate, Sheikh Sultan Al-Aradah, the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to Combat Violence against Women was launched, which begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 and ends on the International Human Rights Day on December 10, in order to combat all forms of violence against women and girls.
At the campaign launch event, Marib Governor's Deputy Ali Al-Fatemi praised the awareness-raising efforts led by HUMAN ACCESS in partnership with UNFPA to combat gender-based violence, emphasizing the importance of the campaign to educate the public on women's and girls' rights.
For her part, the Director General of Women's Development at the Governorate's Diwan, Ms. Fanda Al-Ammari, pointed out the seriousness of violence against women as a disaster whose effects are reflected on the family and society.
The safe space in Al-Rawdah area and Al-Mil camps organized an awareness radio program via the local Al-Jawf Radio, which broadcasts from Marib city. In the radio program, the topic of violence against women was discussed, including in its most extreme forms, such as the killing of women, and how urgent investments are needed to ensure that women and girls have a life free of violence.
In Al-Matar area, the safe space held an awareness campaign under the slogan "Empowering and Protecting Women for Sustainable Development". The event addressed the meanings and implications of the 16-day campaign of activism and the need to increase awareness about preventing the scourge of violence as a global phenomenon that transcends borders, social, and economic status, and age groups.
In Al-Mujamma area, the safe space organized a radio interview via the local Marib Radio to draw attention to violence against women and girls and to address it as a public health and human rights issue. The participants also stressed the importance of redoubling efforts to eliminate all forms of violence and create a world where every woman and girl can live a fulfilling life.
In Wadi Hadhramaut, the Safe Space in Seiyun participated in a radio program on Seiyun Radio to introduce the 16-day campaign of activism. It also carried out a life skills, marketing, and financial training program for beneficiaries of vocational rehabilitation during the second half of this year in preparation for their entry into the labor market and earning a living, given the importance of economic empowerment in protecting women and girls from violence.
The Safe Space in Mukalla city in Sahel Hadhramaut, in the presence of local officials and a number of social figures, launched a marketing bazaar for the products of beneficiaries of vocational and craft rehabilitation. As these activities help to support and empower women and reduce their vulnerability to gender-based violence, they enable them to market their products and creativity and increase their competitiveness.
Further, the safe space in Al-Ma'afer district in Taiz hosted an awareness session on women's rights, addressing violence against women, which costs society a lot and requires a campaign to increase knowledge of its dangers and educate society so that measures can be taken to improve social conditions. The event also emphasized the pivotal role of women in achieving change.
