HUMAN ACCESS in Shabwa and Marib governorates carried out a wide range of important and purposeful activities as part of the protection and livelihood support project “Safe Space for Women and Girls,” funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), to address issues related to women’s rights in Yemen.
In the city of Ataq, Shabwa, the safe space held a working group meeting to discuss a number of issues related to the progress and development of work to serve the most vulnerable and needy women and girls.
The space also hosted a community awareness session about how discrimination in treating children impacts children psychologically and that investing in children is an investment in the future.
In Marib, the safe space in Al-Rawda area and Al-Mil camps organized focus discussion sessions related to vocational choice and labor market analysis, with the participation of 23 applicants for vocational qualification, to identify their inclinations, abilities, and labor market viability, in preparation for their training, economic empowerment, and ensuring the success of their own projects in the future.
As part of the preparation for their vocational qualification, the safe space in Al-Jufaina conducted a field visit in order to assess the eligibility of the cases for training.
In order to reduce the increasing burden of psychological disorders associated with the continuation of the conflict, and the exacerbation of psychological illnesses affecting all segments of society, group psychological support was offered to a number of women visiting the space about psychological pressures and ways to face and reduce them.
The space also organized three awareness sessions, the first attended by 30 women, addressing the harms of underage marriage. A variety of recreational activities were provided to relieve stress and offer family counseling, along with psychological support on family harmony.
The second session emphasized utilizing and employing skills, while the third session stressed improving livelihoods and introducing space services, as well as providing psychological support on psychological satisfaction in the presence of 15 women.
The safe space in Al-Matar hosted a focus discussion session on the importance of career choice and earning a living with the participation of 18 women.
Two psychological support sessions were also held, the first to discuss the harms caused by psychological inertia and its treatment, while the second session focused on self-confidence and its relationship to success to help women gain confidence and support one another.
Furthermore, the space carried out eight awareness sessions on happy marriage, the roles of women in society, improving livelihoods and combating poverty, the role of the protection project in empowering women, methods of sound socialization of children, domestic violence, its causes and treatment, and the mechanism of complaints and suggestions.
Additionally, one of the sessions discussed how to enhance trust in the project and encourage beneficiaries to participate, provide feedback, and evaluate performance, thus improving women and girls' access to services.
