The second conference against female genital mutilations (FGM) was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 9 to 11 October, during which HUMAN ACCESS participated. The conference was attended by over 400 people from around the world, including African Union representatives, United Nations Population Fund representatives, ambassadors, humanitarian organizations, and many others.
The conference addressed a number of topics related to FGM, during which knowledge and experiences were shared to be used.
The achievements made by the African Union countries in ending the FGM phenomenon were also reviewed, as well as the progress of the plan to end this harmful phenomenon, which is expected to be eliminated by the year 2030.
Furthermore, the conference addressed the impact of sexual mutilation on girls from a human rights perspective and reviewed stories of women who suffered physical, psychological, and social complications as a result.
