HUMAN ACCESS in Shabwa and Marib governorates implemented a number of purposeful activities on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 of each year, as part of the protection and livelihood support project, “Safe Space for Women and Girls,” funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

In Ataq city, Shabwa, the safe space organized an awareness session entitled “The Importance of Mental Health and Factors for Promoting It,” targeting female students in a secondary school to motivate girls to take care of their mental health.

It also organized an entertainment and education activity about children’s mental health in a kindergarten to support mental health among this important segment of society.

In Marib, the Safe Space in Al-Wadi district carried out a recreational activity for the space employees to raise their morale and boost their mental health.

Additionally, the safe space conducted community outreach to promote mental health and help people understand mental disorders for the sake of a healthier society.

To mark World Mental Health Day, the space in Wadi Marib launched a vocational training course in sewing and tailoring. The course was designed to equip trainees from vulnerable groups with this craft profession so that they could qualify for the labor market and improve their incomes, in light of the challenging economic and living conditions they are facing.

In Al-Mujamma area, the space conducted a group psychological support and community education session under the slogan “Mental health is a universal human right.”

Furthermore, several psychological support sessions were held in Al-Matar area to address mental health as an integral part of human general health and the need to reduce stigma surrounding mental illnesses.
