Under the slogan “What is your role to protect women and provide for their needs,” and within the protection and livelihood support project “Safe Space for Women and Girls,” HUMAN ACCESS in the governorates of Hadhramaut, Shabwa, and Marib continues to implement activities for the 16-day campaign to combat gender-based violence, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief).

In Hadhramaut, the safe space in Seiyun city organized two awareness sessions, the first a community-based one targeting a number of women and girls and addressing social change among women working in society.

The second session focused on AIDS, coinciding with World AIDS Day on December 1 each year, with the goal of improving understanding, preventing, and limiting the spread of the disease.

In the presence of the Director General of Mukalla district, Abdullah Salem Bayashoot, the safe space in Mukalla city launched a marketing bazaar to display the products of 110 women who benefited from the vocational rehabilitation and economic empowerment program.

These women have been trained and empowered in several professional fields, including sewing, incense and perfume making, mobile phone maintenance and programming, culinary skills, and food industry.

Bayashoot praised the bazaar and the efforts made to improve the living conditions of vulnerable families.

In Ataq city of Shabwa, the safe space held a panel discussion with employees of the Women’s Center in Bakbira area, which discussed the importance of women’s capabilities and empowerment, enhancing their role and involving them in development.

The panel also discussed the exchange of experiences in various fields for the advancement of women and girls, as well as the implementation of a radio program on the local Al-Bilad radio station to protect women and promote their role in society.

The safe space also conducted three awareness-raising activities, the first targeting female students from Al-Amal National Schools during the morning assembly, which focused on the importance of girls’ education and introduced the 16-day campaign to combat gender-based violence.

The second activity targeted female students at the health institute in Ataq city, addressing the need of building women’s capabilities and empowering them for a safe future for all.

The third activity targeted female students at Imam Al-Bayhani School, entitled “Women are Partners in Development.”

Additionally, the safe space in Ataq held an open day at a kindergarten, during which discussions were held with the nannies and mothers of children about the 16-day campaign against violence, as well as open activities for children, based on the belief that children have a social value.

In Marib, the safe space organized two open days, the first in “Minin Al-Had” camp in Al-Mujamma area, while the second was in Al-Rawda area and Al-Mil camps.

The two days involved a wide range of recreational, awareness, and cultural activities, in addition to competitions, medical consultations, a special corner for children, and others.

The safe space in Al-Jufaina area also carried out an awareness session with the participation of 20 women, addressing the importance of combating violence against women.

To raise awareness about the essential need for resisting the epidemic of violence, the safe space in Al-Matar area implemented a school radio program targeted at students from Al-Resala Girls Schools.
