Forming a religious health committee to raise community awareness of the harms and risks of FGM
HUMAN ACCESS in Mukalla held a workshop to establish a religious health committee with the intention of raising community sensitization of the harm and dangers of female genital mutilation, with funding from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The workshop discussed a number of topics related to the health, psychological, physical and social harms of female genital mutilation (FGM) on girls. The workshop also touched on the views of contemporary Islamic fiqh councils.
During the workshop, a religious health committee was set up to launch an electronic religious health guide to zero tolerance for FGM.
