
HUMAN ACCESS concluded the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to Combat Violence against Women and Girls by conducting a wide range of targeted activities, under the umbrella of the Protection and Livelihood Support Project "Safe Space for Women and Girls" funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to mitigate the risks of gender-based violence in Yemen.
In Aden Governorate, the Safe Space in Dar Saad District honored 14 workers in the field of protection and support in conjunction with International Human Rights Day, December 10, to encourage humanitarian and community work.
The honoring process was attended by Eng. Saif Al-Qatawi, Advisor to the Director of the District.
In Wadi Hadhramaut, the Safe Space in Seiyun City awarded livelihood grants in the fields of sewing and tailoring, hairdressing and beauty, and making sweets and pastries to 24 women to start their own businesses and become self-reliant as part of efforts to confront the scourge of violence.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Office in Wadi Hadhramaut, the Safe Space honored a group of active and influential women in society in appreciation of their role in achieving positive change and their contribution to building a better society.
At the honoring, Director General of the Social Affairs Office, Ahmed Bahashwan, emphasized the significant role of women in society and the pivotal role they play in building generations.
In Al-Mahrah Governorate, the Safe Space in Al-Ghaydah City organized community awareness in cooperation with Al-Mahrah Family Development Association, addressing women's rights in Islam and their important role in developing society.
The awareness campaign, which targeted 100 women and girls, coincided with International Human Rights Day.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Office in Al-Mahrah, the Safe Space delivered bags of economic empowerment grants in the fields of sewing and pastry making to 12 women beneficiaries.
The space also hosted a workshop on the art of marketing for the rehabilitation and economic empowerment beneficiaries during the current year to equip beneficiaries with basic marketing skills that will help them in the labor market.
In the presence of the Undersecretary of Al- Mahrah Governorate, Eng. Awad Qwaizan, the Safe Space launched the fifth bazaar for products of beneficiaries of rehabilitation and economic empowerment this year.
In her speech at the launch, Ms. Lubna Kalshat, Director General of the Women's Development Department in Al-Mahrah, explained the importance of such events that highlight the work of beneficiaries of humanitarian projects and display their products, which have now become part of local production.
The bazaar was attended by 50 women beneficiaries who presented distinguished products through various corners, including the sewing corner, pastries and sweets corner, perfumes and incense, accessories, children's corner, and a corner in cooperation with the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Physically Disabled, which displayed drawings and accessories.
In Shabwa Governorate, the Safe Space in the city of Ataq honored four female employees in the Civil Status Department to encourage women to work in official institutions.
The annual bazaar was also launched to display products of women benefiting from economic empowerment programs, which included bazaar wings for clothing and embroidery, sweets/pastries, popular foods, perfumes, incense, and hairdressing, in addition to a corner for children's games.
At the opening, the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Women's Union in Shabwa, Ms. Samah Al-Khader, noted the importance of the bazaar in creating a suitable space to display women's products and commercially market them, pointing to its role in improving their income and providing basic needs for their families' livelihood. She also praised the quality of the products displayed in the bazaar.
In Marib Governorate, the safe space in Al-Jufaina camp for displaced persons held a training program in the field of hairdressing for 12 beneficiaries from the most vulnerable and needy women to qualify them to enter the workforce and earn a living, given the importance of the economic empowerment role in confronting violence against women and girls.
