A number of activities were organized by HUMAN ACCESS in Hadhramaut, Shabwa and Marib governorates as part of the UNFPA-funded protection and livelihood support project “Safe Space for Women and Girls”.

These activities were aimed at raising awareness among women and preparing them to face the turmoil and difficulties of their lives as a result of the conflict in the country, as well as qualifying them professionally and economically.

In Wadi Hadhramaut, the safe space in Seiyun carried out two awareness sessions. The first was about breast cancer, targeting 30 women to increase knowledge of the symptoms and causes of this disease and ways to prevent it on the occasion of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “Pink October.”

The second session addressed the importance of mental health, in the presence of 26 women, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.

In Ataq city of Shabwa, the safe space launched a vocational course in the field of sewing and tailoring with the participation of 12 trainees as part of the training programs for the fourth quarter of this year.

In order to improve their standard of living and enable them to become more self-reliant, this program is designed to provide them with the skills needed to engage in this economically viable craft.

In Marib, the safe space in Al-Matar area launched two training courses. The first one in hairdressing, targeting 12 trainees from the most vulnerable and needy groups, whereas the second was in the field of sewing, with the participation of 12 trainees, to qualify them for the labor market and earn a living.

Furthermore, several beneficiaries and visitors to the space attended a psychological support session that discussed ways to cope with psychological stress.

The safe space in Al-Matar area had carried out a focus group discussion to understand and analyze the market as well as identify the professional preparations and inclinations of the female applicants for vocational training.

Therefore, the training program is chosen according to market needs and to the female applicants' professional backgrounds and preparations in order to ensure they are successful in leading their own projects and making a positive contribution to society.
