A group of development institutions announced their intention to launch the "Yemeni Network for the Protection of Women and Girls" during a press conference held in Aden Governorate in conjunction with the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), which falls on February 6 of each year.
The development institutions are (Developmental Psychological Care Foundation, For Human Development Foundation, Aden Foundation for Arts and Sciences), which won creative and effective projects in the "Innovation in Ending Harm" competition, organized by HUMAN ACCESS with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
This initiative is part of the "Leave Her as She Was Created" campaign, which lasted for months and involved a wide range of targeted activities to protect the rights of women and girls in Yemen from all forms of gender-based violence, most notably FGM as a brutal and harmful practice with serious negative consequences.
The launch of the "Yemeni Network for the Protection of Women and Girls" is part of ongoing efforts to accelerate the pace of work, strengthen alliances, and build movements to end female genital mutilation by 2030, and to change behavior as individuals and groups towards respecting women and their efforts for sustainable development in society.
