In 2024, 45-year-old Sameer and his family were displaced from Taiz Governorate to Al-Shihr District in Hadhramaut Governorate. To provide for his family's basic needs amid harsh living conditions, he worked as a driver on a meager income.
Their hardship deepened when the health of his four-year-old son, Adnan, deteriorated. As Adnan began suffering from frequent seizures, the severe economic crisis meant Sameer's earnings could not cover doctor visits or medical treatment.
Reflecting on those dark days, the father shared: "My son's life was in mortal danger. I watched him suffer day after day, utterly helpless and reduced to tears. The cost of medical care was entirely beyond my reach; I could barely afford food and drinking water. Every moment was filled with terror and helplessness, as I clung to a fragile, fading hope that my boy's life might somehow be saved."
The Turning Point
A glimmer of hope emerged when the father learned that the Al-Mansoura Medical Center in Al-Shihr District offers a range of free medical services as part of a multi-sector project designed to save the lives of severely vulnerable populations.
In October 2025, the Center admitted Adnan, where doctors diagnosed him with a fluid buildup in the brain that required specialized medical care.
Through a project implemented by the HUMAN ACCESS and funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), the child was transferred to a specialized hospital in Hadhramaut for the necessary treatment.
Following seven months of close medical monitoring, Adnan's condition improved and he fully recovered. He became one of 44,702 beneficiaries who received life-saving medical services during the project's implementation period from August 2025 to May 2026.
A New Smile
Today, Adnan plays actively with other children and leads a normal life. This transformation brought immense relief to his family, who expressed deep gratitude for the timely support that restored their peace of mind and hope after enduring constant anxiety over their beloved son.
“Had it not been for your support, I would not have been able to treat my son. Today, I feel as though my son has been born anew. I cannot describe my joy; seeing my child play and run around in good health is worth all the treasures of the world. You have filled my heart with happiness, and I pray to Allah to fill your hearts with joy.”, Adnan's father said.
Adnan’s story highlights how humanitarian support helps save lives, improve health, and preserve human dignity during emergencies. It also demonstrates the importance of strengthening healthcare systems in crisis-affected areas to build a healthier future for all.
