Among the activities and services provided by UNFPA-funded Protection and Livelihood Support Project (Safe Space for Women and Girls), HUMAN ACCESS launched the “literacy and adult education class” in Seiyun district in the presence of Mr. A’ed Saleh Badr Ben Mehri, Director General of Literacy and Adult Education in Hadramout Al-Wadi and Al-Sahra’a.

During the opening event, Ben Mehri praised the humanitarian efforts extended by HUMAN ACCESS in supporting education, particularly the opening of literacy classes, which is a step that enables women and girls to build up their education.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to HUMAN ACCESS and UNFPA, being the project implementer and funder for backing up government efforts in implementing educational projects within the governorate. He underscored the importance of integrating the community-based civilian role with the role of local authorities, in improving the quality of education.

Ms. Sundos Al-Saidi, Project Coordinator, on her part, emphasized the importance of educating women in improving maternal and child health, and livelihoods. Further, she outlined the services provided by the Safe Space for Women and Girls including capacity-building training sessions, and mental, social, and legal support.  

Ms. Al-Saidi further explained that each literacy class includes 20 female trainees who receive first-grade basic literacy lessons, along with some educational and vocational programmes.

The opening was attended by Mr. Abdullah Ba Makhramah, Director of Literacy and Adult Education Office in Seiyun district, and the Judge. Mokhtar Ba Jobeir, Legal Specialist.
