A women’s team carried out home field visits accompanied by children’s ambassadors, targeting a number of pregnant women and newborns in a neighborhood of Al-Ghaydah city, to raise awareness of the dangers of female genital mutilation (FGM), as part of the FGM project, which is implemented by HUMAN ACCESS in Al-Mahra Governorate, with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
A variety of education methods were used by the women's team of the project, such as dialogues, videos and brochures, emphasizing how FGM violates the basic human rights of girls and women as well as long-term physical, psychological and social consequences and complications, and the need to stand together to criminalize this phenomenon and protect women's and girls' health.
