Within the framework of the FGM project, “Youth Friendly Space” funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to confront the harmful phenomenon of female genital mutilation (FGM), HUMAN ACCESS concluded an awareness campaign in Hadhramaut Governorate and organized community dialogues in Al Mahrah Governorate.
In this context, an awareness campaign was concluded in Mukalla city, Hadhramaut, with a closing ceremony, in the presence of Ms. Sabreen Al-Kirbi, Coordinator of the Ministry of Human Rights in Hadhramaut Coast.
Several activities were held and gifts were distributed as part of the ceremony, besides competitions and meetings aimed at raising community awareness about sexual mutilation of girls as an act of gender-based violence.
As part of the peer network 3 awareness campaign, several awareness sessions were conducted in various residential neighborhoods over a three-day period.
Moreover, informative brochures and educational gifts were delivered to medical clinics specializing in women and childbirth to promote community awareness.
In addition, a discussion was carried out on local radio, as well as a number of interviews held with residents, generating a lot of interaction.
Furthermore, the Youth Friendly Space organized community dialogues with community leaders in Al-Ghaydah city of Al Mahra to raise awareness among community members about sexual mutilation of girls as a wrong practice that is embedded in some social norms and causes long-term physical, psychological, and social damage and complications, and that everyone should stand together for the safety of girls.
