HUMAN ACCESS in Shabwa Governorate concluded the events of the 16 days of activity campaign to combat gender-based violence for this year, which was carried out in the city of Ataq under the slogan "Unite", as part of the protection and livelihood support project activities "Safe space for women and girls", funded by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The closing ceremony witnessed the handing over of economic empowerment grants for the fourth quarter of this year to trainees in sewing, incense and perfume making, and mobile phone maintenance, in addition to honoring all beneficiaries of vocational and skill training activities and programs for this year. This took place in the presence of the director general of the Vocational Training and Technical Education office in Shabwa, Nasser Habtoor.

The safe space for women and girls in Ataq indicated that the number of beneficiaries of the protection and livelihood support project during the year 2022 amounted to 366 beneficiaries from the most vulnerable groups in society, of whom 268 obtained economic empowerment grants after completing their rehabilitation and preparing them to establish meaningful and economically feasible projects that enable them to rely on themselves.

The conclusion of the 16-day campaign was preceded by a one-day mini-training course targeting more than 66 women on the basics of making incense in order to equip them with basic skills in this profession.

An awareness lecture was also given to more than 150 male and female students at the late Maqlam Institute of Health Sciences. The lecture, titled "Honoring her in honor of your family", focused on the importance of encouraging girls and appreciating their pioneering role.

The protection network also organized its latest activities, which consisted of holding a community awareness session targeting more than 75 women, under the title "Women are the sisters of men."

In this session, the rights of men and women were discussed, as well as the fact that women are the sisters of men, and women play just as important a role as men, and that life is not one half without the other.

The protection network in the old market neighborhood carried out an awareness session targeting a number of women and girls, and addressed the issue of domestic violence and its negative consequences.

The session also warned against children witnessing or experiencing any manifestations of violence within the family, as it exposes children to severe danger and negatively affects their well-being, health and development.

In Al-Uboor area, an awareness session was organized entitled "How Society Deals with Working Women", which dealt with women's right to work opportunities that are commensurate with their nature and do not conflict with their basic duties in a way that benefits them and their families.

The session confirmed that work is one of the values ​​that play an vital role in the advancement of societies and benefit from all energies and capabilities to serve everyone.
