Overall Purpose of the Position:
The Health Midwife will be responsible for supporting reproductive health components, health awareness, and referrals within mobile response teams. She will provide basic information and counseling on reproductive health, conduct awareness sessions, identify priority health needs, and link women and girls to available health services in targeted areas. The role extends beyond direct health services, ensuring safe access to appropriate healthcare, updating referral pathways, and strengthening community outreach.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Reproductive Health Awareness:
- Conduct individual and group awareness sessions on reproductive health topics.
- Provide clear and accurate information on women’s health and reproductive health.
- Raise awareness on the importance of timely healthcare seeking.
- Deliver sessions on maternal and newborn health, family planning, and related topics.
- Participate in joint awareness activities with the mobile response team.
- Reproductive Health Counseling:
- Provide safe and basic counseling to women and girls.
- Listen to beneficiaries’ needs and provide appropriate information.
- Identify cases requiring specialized medical examination or intervention.
- Ensure privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent during counseling.
- Avoid medical interventions beyond the scope of the project.
- Safe Health Referrals:
- Identify beneficiaries requiring specialized services and refer them accordingly.
- Provide clear information on services, locations, and access methods.
- Ensure referrals are safe, confidential, and based on informed consent.
- Follow up on referrals when necessary without compromising confidentiality.
- Update referral pathways as services change or expand.
- Health Services Mapping:
- Conduct and update mapping of reproductive health services in targeted areas.
- Identify available facilities, midwives, centers, and hospitals.
- Collect basic information on services, working hours, access conditions, and costs.
- Regularly update service maps and referral pathways.
- Share updated information with the team coordinator and project manager.
- Needs and Gaps Identification:
- Contribute to identifying women’s and girls’ reproductive health needs.
- Monitor gaps in available health services.
- Report service shortages or access challenges to the team coordinator.
- Support prioritization of health needs requiring intervention or referral.
- Provide field feedback to improve response strategies.
- Working within the Mobile Response Team:
- Collaborate closely with the psychologist, social worker, and legal specialist.
- Participate in field visits and community activities.
- Help identify cases requiring multi-sectoral services.
- Support the team in determining appropriate health referrals.
- Attend team meetings and discuss field challenges while maintaining confidentiality.
- Coordination with Health Service Providers:
- Build and update communication channels with reproductive health providers.
- Maintain contact with health facilities to stay informed about available services.
- Facilitate referrals and coordinate service delivery for beneficiaries.
- Monitor changes in service availability or access mechanisms.
- Report any changes affecting referral pathways to the team coordinator.
- Data, Documentation, and Reporting:
- Document awareness sessions, counseling, and referrals using approved forms.
- Submit required data to the team coordinator on time.
- Contribute to periodic reports on team activities.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of beneficiary data.
- Report challenges and gaps identified in reproductive health services.
- Protection and Confidentiality Principles:
- Fully adhere to confidentiality, informed consent, non-discrimination, safety, and “do no harm” principles.
- Ensure health and personal information is not shared with unauthorized persons.
- Comply with PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards.
- Treat all beneficiaries with respect and dignity.
- Follow safe referral procedures, especially in sensitive cases.
- Other Duties:
- Perform any reproductive health or field response tasks assigned by the mobile response team coordinator.
- Participate in relevant trainings and technical meetings.
- Provide suggestions to improve awareness, referral, and access to reproductive health services.
Basic Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or a related health field.
- Practical experience in reproductive health, preferably in humanitarian or community work.
- Valid professional license or registration as per local requirements.
- Experience in health awareness, counseling, and referrals.
- English language proficiency is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Good knowledge of reproductive health and women’s health services.
- Ability to work in the field and travel between targeted sites.
- Strong communication, coordination, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, humanitarian principles, and beneficiary protection.
