In cooperation with the General Department of Literacy and Adult Education, Mr. Awad bin Al-Wazir, Shabwah Governor, inaugurated a workshop undertaken by HUMAN ACCESS in Ataq, entitled "Strengthening  the capacities of female literacy teachers", with the participation of 35 teachers.

The workshop aimed to build up the skills of literacy and adult education teachers, by training them on the skills related to literacy including up-to-date teaching approaches, how to use teaching tools, and how to handle the challenges they face with learners.

At the opening event, Shabwah Governor donated 6 million YER to support literacy and adult education, stressing the importance of paying priority and greater attention towards adult education, along with ensuring better motivation for learners to continue their education.

The Governor, Ben Al-Wazir emphasized that this workshop is essential as it adds to the level of female educators and contributes to the education of women, especially since women are the fundamental building block of society. He also highlighted the need to build up the capacities of female mentors and teachers so as to improve their performance and exercise their duties to the fullest.

“Such efforts are an indication of the resolve to getting rid of illiteracy and its negative effects”, said Mohammed Al-Ashlah , Director General of Literacy in Shabwah governorate. He also called for concerted efforts to scale up adult education, eliminate illiteracy, and open classes across the governorate.

For their part, the female teachers participating in the workshop stressed the need to identify the most important obstacles faced by female teachers, most notably the insufficient incentives provided to them compared to that approved for regular teachers of minister of education, as well as the lack of curricula and training.
