Under the patronage of the Governor of Shabwa Governorate, Sheikh Awad Mohammed bin Al-Wazir, the HUMAN ACCESS branch in Shabwa, in partnership with the local branch of the General Authority for Environmental Protection, organized a workshop entitled "Towards a Green Environment and a Sustainable Future: Contemporary Environmental Challenges and Approaches to Addressing Them."
With 20 participants in attendance, the workshop, held in the city of Ataq, discussed several important topics and reviewed the most significant environmental challenges facing Shabwa Governorate. These included oil spill pollution, desertification, sanitation problems, the spread of epidemics, and overfishing.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations for addressing environmental challenges in Shabwa in light of climate change. The workshop also emphasized the importance of raising environmental awareness within the community and the need to advance environmental work in the governorate through partnership and coordination between government agencies and civil society organizations.
At the workshop's opening, Dr. Taha Baker, Director General of the General Authority for Environmental Protection's office in Shabwa, commended the efforts of HUMAN ACCESS in the environmental and climate sectors to enhance local communities' resilience to climate change and mitigate the impacts of disasters. He emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and improving quality of life.
