As part of the female genital mutilation (FGM) project funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), HUMAN ACCESS in Hadhramaut Governorate implemented a number of activities to address the issue of FGM and warn girls about the detrimental effects it can have on their physical and psychological well-being.

Two workshops were held for the purpose of developing information, education and communication (IEC) materials against FGM in Mukalla and Seiyun cities, in the presence of media professionals, religious scholars, educators, and social workers in preparation for launching awareness campaigns in the near future to protect girls from such harmful practices.

In a related context, a training course was organized in Seiyun for a number of social networks, including the peer network and the community committees’ network.

A key focus of the training was the importance of community networks in raising public awareness of FGM as a crime and human rights violation that everyone must confront.
