Basic Job Information

Job Purpose

The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting and maintaining sound financial operations within the organization by ensuring accurate implementation of accounting procedures, strengthening internal financial controls, and promoting transparency and compliance with the organization's financial policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare cash, bank, and warehouse payment vouchers and record warehouse receipt vouchers in the financial system.
  2. Review daily cash transactions (receipts and payments) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
  3. Verify staff entitlements and monitor staff advances, petty cash, and account settlements.
  4. Prepare manual and electronic journal entries and review them before and after posting to ensure the accuracy of accounting records.
  5. Prepare debit and credit notes for field offices and the Head Office.
  6. Prepare financial reports for donors on a periodic basis and upon project completion.
  7. Review financial clearance procedures for staff and partner organizations and record the related accounting entries.
  8. Follow up on the submission of financial clearances from field offices and concerned staff.
  9. Participate in the preparation of trial balances and year-end financial statements for the Head Office.
  10. Prepare monthly project trial balances and monitor their implementation.
  11. Participate in the annual inventory count of cash, fixed assets, and other financial assets, and document the results.
  12. Prepare financial statements, certifications, and administrative reports as requested.
  13. Archive financial documents and records in accordance with the organization's approved filing, classification, indexing, retention, and disposal system.
  14. Comply with organizational policies, work ethics, and the Association's Code of Conduct.
  15. Adhere to the official working hours as determined by the Project Manager.
  16. Perform any other duties assigned within the scope of the project.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree is preferred).
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage financial tasks efficiently and submit reports within established deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and analyze financial data and make sound, data-driven decisions.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex financial issues.
  • Ability to develop budgets and financial forecasts aligned with the organization's objectives.
  • Ability to prepare balance sheets, income statements, and year-end financial reports accurately and efficiently.
  • Practical experience using electronic accounting systems such as YemenSoft and Onyx.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
