Project Background
The Girls’ Protection and Empowerment Project – Phase II aims to strengthen community protection systems for girls most at risk of violence, exploitation, and denial of rights. It builds on achievements from Phase I, which raised awareness on child rights, child marriage, gender-based violence, and female genital mutilation. The project also develops referral mechanisms, provides specialized support services, expands prevention and response interventions, and enhances the capacities of abused girls through an entrepreneurial approach.
Overall Purpose of the Position
To contribute to planning, implementing, and monitoring community behavioral awareness activities related to girls’ protection and empowerment, by working directly with target communities to modify negative knowledge, attitudes, and practices, and promote supportive behaviors for child rights and gender equality, in line with project and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop community behavioral awareness plans in coordination with the project team.
- Conduct individual and group awareness sessions, community dialogues, and café discussions on child protection, gender-based violence, child marriage, and female genital mutilation, adapting messages to local context.
- Organize and implement awareness campaigns and community initiatives with local leaders and stakeholders.
- Identify at-risk cases during awareness activities and refer them to protection teams or relevant services.
- Document awareness activities (attendance lists, photos, change stories, pre/post surveys) and submit data on time.
- Contribute to developing awareness materials (key messages, brochures, posters, digital content) in coordination with the project team.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on awareness activities, including achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Participate in regular meetings, workshops, and trainings related to project activities and skill development.
- Adhere to protection principles, organizational Code of Conduct, humanitarian ethics, and project instructions.
- Perform any other related tasks assigned within the project framework.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in Media, Sociology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in media, community awareness, or gender-based protection.
- Experience in conducting individual and group awareness sessions.
- Experience in managing beneficiary databases.
- Good knowledge of child protection and gender concepts, behavior change, and community communication.
- Previous experience with humanitarian or development organizations preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication, facilitation, and group management skills.
- Ability to deliver culturally sensitive and age/gender-appropriate sessions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work under pressure.
- Good computer skills (MS Office, especially Word and Excel).
- Ability to prepare simple narrative and statistical reports.
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in trainings.
Physical and Mental Requirements

- Strong observation skills.
