- Job Summary
The Accountability Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation of accountability and quality mechanisms within the organization, ensuring that the needs of affected communities are met and that they are effectively engaged in program design and evaluation. This role promotes transparency, responsiveness to feedback and complaints, and adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) principles. The Accountability Assistant contributes to data collection, analysis, reporting, and documentation of lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement of program quality.
- Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Implementation of Accountability Mechanisms:
- Assist in designing and applying accountability systems, including complaints and feedback mechanisms, suggestion boxes, hotlines, and community meetings.
- Ensure beneficiaries understand and can access available accountability mechanisms.
- Contribute to developing culturally appropriate information materials on accountability and quality.
- Data Collection and Information Management:
- Collect accountability-related data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
- Enter and update data in designated databases, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Support data quality checks and cleaning prior to analysis.
- Analysis and Reporting:
- Contribute to analyzing complaints, feedback, and lessons learned to identify trends and key issues.
- Prepare periodic reports on accountability activities, including number and types of complaints, resolution status, and lessons learned.
- Support donor and stakeholder reporting on organizational accountability commitments.
- Standards and Principles Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).
- Apply AAP principles to guarantee community engagement and dignity.
- Contribute to compliance with donor requirements and organizational SOPs.
- Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work closely with program, MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) teams to integrate accountability across project cycles.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to share information and facilitate problem-solving.
- Capacity Building:
- Assist in organizing training workshops on accountability and quality for staff and partners.
- Support community capacity building to enable them to exercise their right to accountability.
- Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Human Rights, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in accountability, monitoring & evaluation, or humanitarian/development work, preferably within NGOs.
- Strong understanding of accountability and quality principles, CHS, and AAP.
- Proficiency in English and Somali languages.
